NHBCOS Interview Spotlight...


New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs has over 100 musician members. Each and every member has a unique life story to tell. We would like to introduce you to our fabulous musical family.

Getting to know you....Marcia Lee

  1. Name? Were you named after anyone? Marcia Lee. No, the Brady Bunch aired on TV after I was born.

  2. Where are you from? Colorado Springs, although I was not born here. I arrived in 1967 with my family when my Dad was stationed at Ft. Carson.

  3. What band are you in? Symphonic Band - clarinet section.

  4. Do you play in more than one musical group? Yes, I play in the band and in Clarinet Choir.

  5. What did you want to be when you were a kid? An airline stewardess when I was really young. I started college with hopes of becoming a band director, but changed my major to elementary education during my sophomore year.

  6. Do you have kids? No. But I love my nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. They're all wonderful and special.

  7. Do you play more than one instrument? Not any more. In high school and college I played the alto clarinet, tenor sax, bassoon and recorder, but now I play only the clarinet.

  8. What is your favorite dessert? My favorite is homemade chocolate upside down pudding, but I also really love the macadamia nut bread pudding at Carlo's Bistro.

  9. What do you like to do in your spare time? I practice my clarinet, go wine tasting with friends, read books, make cards, camp, travel, jet ski, snow ski, cook, cross stitch, work in the yard, and go to exercise classes.

  10. What is or was your career? I was a commercial lines account executive for CB Insurance (previously Van Gilder Insurance, previously CBS Insurance). I handled the agencies largest business accounts and all lines of insurance (except life and health insurance).

  11. What is your favorite type of music? Jazz - especially when the saxophone is featured.

  12. How did you get involved in music? I begged and cried to my mother to let me join the 5th grade band. She finally gave in which was a most unusual move on her part.

  13. What is your favorite Summer activity? I have many fun summer activities, but my very favorite is spending time with friends/family while viewing the flower garden from the deck in my back yard. It's very peaceful and energizing.

  14. Have you ever been to a different country? Yes, I've been to many countries and lived in two different countries thanks to military assignments. I lived in France as a child and spent 3 years in the outback of Australia as an adult. I have vacationed in most of the European countries and been to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Bermuda and New Zealand.

  15. Describe yourself in 3 words... Nice, Energetic, Organized
