NHBCOS Interview Spotlight...

New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs has over 100 musician members. Each and every member has a unique life story to tell. We would like to introduce you to our fabulous musical family.

Getting to know you...Ann Burnham

  1. Name - Were you named after anyone? Ann Burnham - My parents chose the name Ann Marie after seeing the coverage in LIFE Magazine about the marriage of Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark to King Constantine of Greece. My father (bless him!) had already vetoed my mother's choice of Heather, after he found out my mother intended to stand on the front porch and yll, "Come Heather, Burnham" to call me in from playtime.

  2. Where are you from? I'm an Illinois girl, through and through, though some people would argue that it should be spelled Ill-Annoying. You know - Illinois - where our Governors make our license plates, and dead people have been allowed to vote for nearly a century...Born in Peoria, raised in Macomb.

  3. What band are you in? Symphonic Band

  4. Do you play in more than 1 musical group? I play in a Woodwind Quintet with four members of the Concert Band.

  5. What did you want to be when you were a kid? A doctor (or maybe an astronaut) (or maybe a fireman) (or maybe a baseball umpire) (or maybe a chef) - the possibilities seemed endless!

  6. Do you have kids? Nope. No husband, no kids, no pets. I regret that for about 15 minutes on Christmas Day every year, and then I'm over it.

  7. Do you play more than 1 instrument? Yeah - piano, violin, sax, bassoon, and percussion (sort of).

  8. What is your favorite dessert? Cheesecake (or Cherry Pie)

  9. What do you like to do in your spare time? Music, photography, amateur radio, pub darts, read, cook, paper crafts, crochet, kite flying, ride motorcycles, fishing

  10. What is or was your career? Chemist - got into it because I wanted to be a fireworks chemist - wound up in pharmaceutical manufacturing instead.

  11. What is your favorite type of music? Depends on my mood - NOT rap or old, twangy, country.

  12. How did you get involved in music? My dad taught me to read music and started me on piano when I was three.

  13. What is your favorite Summer activity? Motorcycle trips, baseball games, picnics, flying kites, and fishing.

  14. Have you ever been to a different country? Yeah, but nothing exciting - just Canada for a business trip.

  15. Describe yourself in 3 words... Loyal, Analytical, Honest
