New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs has over 100 musician members. Each and every member has a unique life story to tell. We would like to introduce you to our fabulous musical family.

Getting to know you...Becky McCord

  1. Name? Were you named after anyone? Becky Stiehl McCord Not Rebecca, just Becky (Dad did not like the name Rebecca)

  2. Where are you from? Born in Lincoln, Nebraska; Moved to Colorado Springs when I was 2 years old (1960); Attended Cheyenne Mountain School District from Kindergarten-12th grade; lived in Texas, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Switzerland during my 20s and 30s

  3. What band are you in? Symphonic Band and KICKS

  4. Do you play in more than 1 musical group? Yes, Symphonic Band and KICKS

  5. What did you want to be when you were a kid? Thanks to Mr. Nuccio, in Junior High I wanted to be a Band Director. In High School I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps in Dentistry.

  6. Do you have kids? No. Lots of nieces, nephews and two great cats.

  7. Do you play more than 1 instrument? Alto and Tenor Saxophone

  8. What is your favorite dessert? Chocolate Sundae with peanuts

  9. What do you like to do in your spare time? Walk, play music with my friends, read when I can

  10. What is or was your career? I am still working as a Registered Dental Hygienist. 38 years. Love it. I have the best patients, boss and co-workers.

  11. What is your favorite type of music? Just recently, JAZZ. Thanks to Thomas Tabrah and Tom Fowler.

  12. How did you get involved in music? I started in Grade School under the direction of Mr. Ehrich. Started with my mom's Alto Sax. I learned to LOVE music thanks to Mr. Nuccio's encouragement and teachings in Middle School.

  13. What is your favorite Summer activity? Walking; gardening

  14. Have you ever been to a different country? Traveled in Europe, Africa and Greece. Lived in Switzerland for 2 years and worked as a Dental Hygienist there.

  15. Describe yourself in 3 words... Happy, Loyal, Honest
