Getting to know Tim McDevitt...

1. Name? Were you named after anyone?
My middle name, Arthur, was after my mother's youngest brother, who passed away not long before I was born.
2. Where are you from?
Cleveland, Ohio
3. What band are you in?

I play clarinet in the Concert Band and Symphonic Band.
4. Do you play in more than 1 musical group?
Just the ones noted above.
5. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I had a vague notion of being a businessman. I never thought I would spend 45 years in commercial banking, but that's what I did after studying history in college and getting an MBA in Banking and Finance.
6. Do you have kids?
My son Thomas, also a banker (Deutsche Bank, Tokyo), and a daughter, Anne, who is married to an Army officer and has five terrific kids.
7. Do you play more than 1 instrument?
As a kid, I played string bass and trombone, but set them aside after college. Now I play clarinet and alto saxophone. Go figure...
8. What is your favorite dessert?
Cookies and pies. Hard to choose the favorite.
9. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I read a lot, and play golf with my best friend (my wife, Rosie).
10. What is or was your career?
I worked 45 years for three different banks in international and US commercial banking, the last 22 years of which were with Wells Fargo, based in southern California, but with lots of travel in the US.
11. What is your favorite type of music?
Jazz and concert band (of course).
12. How did you get involved in music?
The Cleveland public schools had a great music program so I played in orchestras and bands from the age of 6. My mother played piano and encouraged my meager musical talents.
13. What is your favorite Summer activity?
Probably golf, with hiking in wonderful Colorado a close second.
14. Have you ever been to a different country?
I lived in Germany, Ireland, England and Canada during my career and have traveled in Japan, Italy, Austria, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Holland, Scotland, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.
15. Describe yourself in 3 words...
Tired of airports? Old clarinet player? Happily married husband? Twice proud father? Or just: Lucky, I guess.
